Each artist who has submitted has the chance to win one of 4 grants of $ 500.
3 Scholarships will be awarded by the members of the jury and one will be awarded by vote by the public.
Each artist receives a free account in Gallea and a space in the thematic exhibition Intersection and visibility through our networks.
In order to diligently, consider and openly assess the works of artists, we have assembled a jury of inclusive neurodiverse members, diversified in terms of talents and sensibilities.

An artist: amateur or professional who lives with an intellectual disability or/and who identifies as autistic or has been diagnosed with autism .
The INTERSECTION ART competition and gallery offers 50 free spaces in its gallery, promotion and visibility among gallery owners across Canada.
4 grants of $ 500 will be offered and several other prizes in services, workshops and mentorship.
The works must be inspired by themes that may be linked, directly or indirectly, to the experience of the pandemic.
The works must have been created between January 2020 and September 10, 2021.
By setting up this ephemeral gallery and competition, we wish, for the first time, to create a space for the valorisation of atypical neuro talents, to increase their visibility, but also to initiate, in a humble way, the networking between the artists, the cultural community, buyers and various art curatorial organisations.
Many people with autism are raw talents who are unable to make their work stand out due to the challenges of self-promotion, sales and the social dimension of marketing.
The INTERSECTION ART competition and gallery offer:
– 50 free places in a nationwide showcase
– Promotion and visibility among gallery owners across Canada
– Four grants of $500 each
– Several other prizes in services, workshops and mentorship
A jury will award three grants of $500 to artists whose works are selected And a grant of $500 will be awarded to an artist whose work takes home the public vote.
Several other prizes linked to art services, workshops and mentorship will be drawn at random.
– The year 2020-2021 has put a strain on the work of all artists
– In order to emerge from this pandemic experience in a positive way, GIANT STEPS is organising INTERSECTION ART, a visual art competition and virtual ephemeral gallery for artists with autism and/or intellectual disabilities. It is also setting up an ephemeral virtual gallery at the service of artists with autism or those living with an intellectual disability.
– The gallery offers 50 free spaces in its showcase
Works must have been created between January 2020 and September 2021 and be inspired by the themes of resilience, loneliness, change, uncertainty, renewal, fear, hope or whatever other emotive or intellectual motivation that can arguably be linked, either directly or indirectly, to the pandemic experience.
– Each artist may submit ONE (1) work and must provide at least: his/her/their name, contact information, date of birth, brief disclosure his/her/their condition, title of the work, year of creation, a photo of him/her/them and a few sentences to introduce himself/herself/themselves and his/her work (it is possible to submit a written form or a 35-second video form to introduce him/herself/themselves and his/her/their work in English or French)
– The minimum age for participation is 15 years.
– The artist may identify him/herself/themselves as a professional or amateur artist
– Families around the organizer can participate and their works will be judged by the jury in the same way as the others
– Artists who have an etsy account or a personal website will also be able to link it to the work displayed in the gallery in order to increase their visibility and their sales. (with mail, direct link (one mail, one platform link) (with email, direct contact (email 1 platform link)
– Artists retain their rights. In order to respect the partnership between Gallea and Giant Steps, 30% of the sales will be retained on the sale of a work by Gallea. 70% of the total amount of the sale will be given directly to the artist.
– The works will be displayed in the ephemeral virtual gallery between September 2021 and June 2022
– The artists agree that the organizer or its partners may use their work in promotional activities related to the competition, its spin-offs and for fundraising purposes in perpetuity (with no associated profits).
The accepted works are:
– Photos
– Short art or performance video (maximum duration 1 minute)
– Mixed media
– Digital visual art
– Graphic design
– Illustration
– Drawing
– High quality photos of artworks
– No paintings, drawings, illustrations or physical sculptures will be accepted. However, high quality photos of these works are eligible for the competition.
– The works must have been created between January 2020 and September 2021 and be inspired by any emotional or intellectual motivations that may be linked, directly or indirectly, to the pandemic experience.
– Selection of works for the site: In the event that the organizer receives more than 50 works, a jury, made up of people with autism, professional artists in art and media and gallery owners, will select the 50 works that will be included in the site.
– Among the 50 works that will be selected, four people will receive a $500 grant
– Selection of the awardees: a jury, made up of people with autism, professional artists in art and media practice and gallery owners, will select three works from the 50 exhibited in the virtual gallery. From the 50, excluding the three works selected by the jury, members of the general public will also be able to vote for their favourite work. – Prizes are awarded by cheque, Canadian currency or gift card
– The public will be able to vote from 14 October to 8 November. Artists will be asked to share the gallery during these weeks in order to contribute to the promotion and get votes.
– The jury will announce the winners of the three grants during the week of November 11th, as well as the winner of the public vote.
